Free Films in the Public Domain
67
There is a huge wealth of Public Domain films available online for you to watch, without cost, any-time you want. Public Domain means that generally the films, books or other artistic works, are out of copy-write and so effectively no one owns them. These films are especially suitable for people who are into retro cult films, lovers of vintage classics, and those looking for something different to the usual Hollywood block buster. There are also great Public Domain films for kids, those into the Horror genre and sweeping romances.
Some of my Favourites
A Farewell to Arms (1932) which stars Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes, is directed by Frank Borzage and is based on the 1929 semi-autobiographical novel by Ernest Hemingway. The film which is set on the Italian front during World War was described by Time out as:-
"not only the best film version of a Hemingway novel, but also one of the most thrilling visions of the power of sexual love that even Borzage ever made . . . no other director created images like these, using light and movement like brushstrokes, integrating naturalism and a daring expressionism in the same shot. This is romantic melodrama raised to its highest degree."
