A haven from the rest of the world

I always think of my bedroom as a haven from the rest of the world and as an expression of my personality. I also think that it is important for a bedroom to be a place that you feel relaxed and calm, as this is conducive to achieving a good, deep restorative sleep and defeating any propensity to insomnia. Having a computer or television in the bedroom is generally not a good idea as well, but if you must, they can be tucked away in specially built cabinets, keeping them out of mind and out of sight.

Decorating your bedroom doesn't need to cost a lot of money and having to be careful with the budget, can make your decorating project more interesting, as you will be forced to be more canny and creative. So lets look at some ideas.

A Place to Read Ghost Stories

Imagine that it's cold and raining outside and you are bundled snugly into bed reading a Charles Dickens ghost story. Just the ticket!

Sweet and Pink

This lovely room is in a rented apartment, yet the result is very personal, comforting and fresh. The bed, brought second hand, combined with soft white quilts and lolly pink accents, manages to be very 'girly', yet grown-up.

Over the Top

O.K so I realise that this room is a little 'too much'. You can still get some good ideas though about how to create a 'palace' like bedroom. A ceiling chandelier, silk swag curtains, luxurious fabrics, gold and silver accessories, contrasted with some heavy, serious looking furniture. Fit for a princess or maybe a queen.

How Romantic

This room makes me think about lying on that soft bed reading "Pride and Prejudice' and imagining that Mr. Darcy has just left Pemberley and is on his way to see me..... well it looks like a room in which to imagine and dream.

Colourful Contrast

Japanese?

There is something Japanese in style about this bedroom, not only suggested by the colours but by the simplicity and minimalism. Overall the affect is inspiring and energetic, a room to suit an active person, who jumps out of bed at the crack of dawn to go jogging.

Juxtaposition

Grand,yet Cottagey

This room gets it just right, with the cottage style timber lined walls, combined with the grand height of the ceiling and the baroque style bed. Elegance combined with simplicity and comfort. Nice!

Bold and Different

Dracula's Bedroom

There is something almost regal about this room. The colours are bold combined with the black bed-head which seems to absorb all light. The high- lights of gold lighten the effect and add a sense of status.
